Lowell, MA - Workers Credit Union (WCU) is going to bat for the city of Lowell. The credit union has signed an agreement to sponsor Mighty Casey, the Lowell Spinners’ bat dog. The beloved Black Labrador will be wearing WCU attire when she makes Spinners fans smile by retrieving bats for the home team at LeLacheur Park during select games. The dog’s name is a tribute to the famous baseball poem, “Casey at the Bat”. Prior to joining the Spinners, Casey was trained to be a bat dog at Green Leaf Pet Resort in New Jersey.
“Teaming up with Mighty Casey and the Lowell Spinners is a new way for Workers Credit Union to engage with and support the people and businesses of this vibrant community,” said Caroline Santangelo, Workers Credit Union’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Acquisition, and Branding. In May, WCU announced plans to build a full-service banking center on Middlesex Street in Lowell, which is scheduled to open in 2027.
The partnership agreement also includes promotional recognition for WCU at home games, social media promotion opportunities, branded signage at LeLacheur Park's entrance gates and stairwells, and WCU table presence at select home games. Workers Credit Union will also be able to collaborate with Casey on community appearances outside of game days.
The Lowell Spinners are enjoying their first season as part of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, which allows college players to showcase their talents for professional scouts during the summer months while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
Workers Credit Union’s Calla Flannery was named a 2026 EIFLE Educator of the Year for advancing financial literacy, recognized for creating inclusive, hands‑on programs supporting neurodiverse students.
